A Word from Paul

I have and continue to enjoy a very successful, fruitful, meaningful, and enjoyable professional career in the tourism, hospitality and service industry. It spans over 40 years starting in Hawaii and continuing in Asia. It brought me to fascinating and exotic destinations and along the way, valuable lessons in my personal and professional life. The learning experiences were fundamental, practical, motivational, and most importantly, helpful in developing my career, maximizing my potentials, and growing happiness with my life and family.

My Story

Paul Pei

Introduction

My strength throughout my career has always been in working with people, both my peers and clients.  Those around me and supervising me have always described me as a self-motivator, eager to assist staff and guests, and possessing a high level of energy and enthusiasm. Throughout the years, the teams in the sales and operating departments under my management have always complimented me on my ability to unite them to reach our common financial and profit goals.  I am very results and bottom-line oriented, systematic, totally dedicated to quality and professionalism, goals-driven, and have a clear understanding of business and profitability.

Hospitality

During the 28 years from 1972 to 2000, I held senior management positions as Director of Sales and Marketing, Executive Assistant Manager and Resident Manager with deluxe, 5-star hotel management companies such as Westin Hotels,
Shangri-La International Hotels & Resorts, and Beaufort Hotels.

Hong Kong Ocean Park

I have been an integral part of the Executive Management team at Ocean Park in my role as Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, overseeing the sales and marketing division (Sales, Marketing, and Public Relations). During these 15 years, Ocean Park has consistently broken annual attendance records for 10 consecutive years with improved turnover revenues and surplus each year.

As a homegrown destination, Hong Kong Ocean Park has enjoyed 5 consecutive years of record-breaking attendance and surplus in spite of the arrival of a fierce, global competitor. I have used my experience of over 30 years in the hotel and hospitality industry to contribute to its continued growth and success.

Since 2003, I have been an active member of  IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions), participating in the marketing committee for 3 years, and chairman of the marketing committee for 3 additional years,  three years on the board of directors for IAAPA and one year on the executive committee of the board of directors.  I have also served on the membership committee and Awards committee.   Enthusiastically supporting IAAPA, I have been consistently participating in numerous IAAPA educational programs (Institute for Attractions Managers) as a faculty member, teaching sales and marketing.

In 2012, I established the Hong Kong Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (HKAAPA) and have served as President since the launch.    This new association is very active and today has 24 members and growing.   It supports Hong Kong tourism and provides educational programs to help industry professionals to grow and improve.  The association also provides excellent networking opportunities for its members as well as other industry professionals.
