Cannot Sit Still, Do Not Want to Sit Still, Warm Welcome

Not long ago,  a friend characterized me as someone who, though officially retired, cannot sit still and really does not want to sit still.   My wife often remarks that since I am retired,  I should relax and step away from the business world.   Unfortunately, I think my friend’s description could not be more accurate.  

Staying active and maintaining a connection to tourism and hospitality means I am not fading away into the sunset.   When it is time for me to do so, I want to fade away, not quietly, but knowing that I was able to participate and contribute to the industry until the very end.  While I am not seeking praises and accolades from the industry, I do hope that I can be recognized for some of my achievements.

Recently, on an assignment to Hong Kong and Singapore, I was so moved by very warm receptions from friends, former colleagues, and business acquaintances.   I was overcome with emotion at each meeting, especially since for some of them, it has been over 10 years since we last met.    It was magnificent to rekindle relationships that took many years to build but seemingly remained strong even with the long absence.   To all those who remember and welcomed me, I have no words for my gratitude.

Retirement does not mean the end of a career, just a new chapter.   To maintain good health with sustainable mobility is the goal today.     Staying connected with the industry keeps the mind active and provides a meaningful purpose for each day, while exercise helps to keep all the joints lubricated and functional.  

Staying connected with a positive, optimistic attitude towards the future provides happiness and satisfaction.   

It makes everything worthwhile.
