In the last article, I introduced you to two talented, and motivated, young individuals.
Just prior to recruiting them, I accepted an assignment to organize and establish an association of the many attractions operating in Hong Kong. The association would benefit all by creating networking opportunities, along with a strong voice and representation of the industry. I would need some help on this project and saw the opportunity in Janice and Rainy.
There was never a doubt in the TRUST for Janice and Rainy. I needed their help and support to establish the association which was foremost on my mind. Shortly after their orientation, and I mean shortly, I sat with them to introduce my vision of the HONG KONG ASSOCIATION OF AMUSEMENT PARKS AND ATTRACTIONS (HKAAPA).
In a short period of 6 months, HKAAPA became a reality with 8 attractions as founding members. I received many accolades for this accomplishment BUT, much of the credit goes to them. Without them and their dedication, the association would not have been formed. I built the relationship with the attractions, and they worked tirelessly on the documentation, coordination, communication, and logistics. To this day, I have never stopped thanking them nor stopped crediting them for HKAAPA.
As the association matured, they also matured and continued to participate and contribute by my side in marketing. Both had very successful careers at Ocean Park, as I knew they would.
That is what successful leaders do, develop people.
Successful leaders know that Trust is vital in good leadership. Leaders and those they lead must develop a high level of trust in each other to succeed. You guide with direction, encouragement, training, provide tools, trust them and give them a chance to perform with full support. The more you invest in developing your team, the better they will grow, and the more productive they become. They will appreciate and remember your leadership. It is how leaders help their people succeed in their careers.
