So Let's Talk About Selling

ree

What does selling mean to you?

There is a plethora of definitions that come up when you “Google” the word sales or selling. The common thread that ties all these definitions together is simply “Sales is business.” Think about it:

  1. We are all in business to make money, this is the only objective in business

  2. No one is in business to lose money

  3. Success in business is making money and a positive bottom line that grows consistently and,

  4. The only way to make money is to sell the product and sell more and more of it.

  5. On the flip side, to not sell is to not make money

Selling is everything. Business begins and ends with sales.

Afterall, there is no reason to have a product if it can’t be sold and it can’t generate revenue. Remember what we said earlier, “No product, no matter how good, sells by itself, it is sold by a salesman.” Advertising, public relations, promotions, all actions of marketing entices and encourages a purchase but finally, a salesman makes the sale. Think about all the successful brands and products in the market place, Boeing, Airbus, Rolex, Omega, McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks, etc. These brands would not be successful, if their products were not sold and bought by someone. If a product is not sold, it sits in inventory on a shelf in a warehouse and represents a cost. So, how important is the sales team, their sales skills, their devotion, their enthusiasm, their eagerness, their ability to sell and their HUNGER to sell?

Remember, selling is aggressive.

Here is an example pertaining to hunger. When are you most aggressive - before lunch or after lunch? Before lunch, your only thoughts are where to eat, what to eat, how soon can I eat. What are you thinking about after lunch? Where to take a nap?

So, when are you more aggressive - before lunch or after lunch?

Selling is aggressive, there is no other way to describe it.

  1. How hungry are you?

  2. How hungry can you be?

  3. How hungry is your team?

  4. How hungry need they be?

Are you and the team hungry and ready to sell?
