As mentioned in past articles, I developed early in my career, a sincere desire and interest in helping to develop future sales leaders. This has only increased over time and continues to strengthen with each speaking engagement and each training project that I conduct. Consulting is very rewarding, especially when it provides a solution along with inspiration and motivation.
Today, as before, I receive very favorable, enthusiastic, and energetic responses for my speaking engagements from various audiences. Before they sit down for the presentation, they express eagerness to learn and when the presentation is completed, they express satisfaction with the material and delivery. I make every effort to ensure that my material is easy to understand, that my delivery is clear, concise, and enjoyable.
In any presentation, a favorable response is never guaranteed and depends largely on the presenter and the audience. While the presenter may be well-versed and have excellent presentation skills, success will seldom happen without a supportive and spirited audience. Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking for a well-known university in Hong Kong on the subject of Ethical Sales and Marketing. The presentation was done via ZOOM and while we always prefer in-person delivery, Zoom is today a very acceptable alternative.
The only time to fit this presentation into the tight schedule of these business students was on a Saturday morning at 10 am. I was extremely impressed with the remarkable turnout of approximately 100 highly motivated students in their lecture hall. Imagine holding a class on campus at an early10am on a Saturday morning for university Students! I was surely very concerned about attendance.
Additionally, the typhoon signal 3 was hoisted that morning with a major storm approaching Hong Kong. As many of you may know when these signals are hoisted, the city comes to a standstill. Therefore, it was truly a pleasant surprise to see a strong turnout in the lecture hall for the event. They turned out despite the inclement weather and early hours on a Saturday morning.
I am grateful for the opportunity to speak and even more grateful for the students in attendance despite the challenges to get to school. The presentation was well received and they provided very positive feedback on the material and delivery. Again, a supportive audience made the presentation successful.
