My wife criticizes me all the time when I bring up the past. I do not live in the past, but I want to never forget the past. Like everyone else, while there were ups and downs, they were glorious days. Every achievement or failure was an experience that guided my career and life. So, what is wrong with talking about the past, the glory days, as she calls them? The glory days were “Happy Days,” and while the scene is different today, I can still aim to continue creating the happiness that filled my past.
As time marches on, memories are what keep us motivated.
It is difficult to look towards the future without understanding the past. Knowing where we have been helps us to decide where we haven’t been and where we want to go. Every day is another bonus and another step towards our final destination, whatever it may be. I said to myself, when it is my turn to walk through the pearly gates, I want my last check to bounce and want the last step to be the pinnacle of my dreams.
When you are young, tomorrow is just another day, but in our twilight years, tomorrow is ever more meaningful.
I rise each morning looking forward to a day full of excitement, learning opportunities, and smiles for myself and everyone around me. Tomorrow is a chance to reflect on how far we have come, where we have been, and how much farther our journey will take us. I don’t want to forget about my glory days. They were great for all the right reasons, and they will help guide me further. Memories are good, and they keep us alive. It is like reviewing the answers to a test, which helps us to learn right and wrong and prepare for the next test.
We should never stop “dreaming” about the future and what is ahead, and in the same way, never stop reminiscing about the past and how we got here. Life’s journey is long and continuous. We learn to accentuate the positive and avoid repeating the negatives. I always remind myself, one step at a time, on this journey, and every day I wake up, it is another new step.
